Draplin Design Co : Welcome To The DDC Merch Store!

draplin design

Hi, I am really grateful for your influence in my design work and I have given my class a preview of your work. We are a (very) small academy in a pretty big school in Santa Barbara and ANY time you are in Cali you are welcome here. We are kinda the underdogs in a big, stylish, city but we make do. I wish you so much more success and happiness. You are clearly a wacky, fun, guy and I hope you can influence my students more in the future. I just wanted to say thanks for sharing.

And that book by kuweyama…damn. The simplicity is the Beauty. It's a couple times a day where I have to whip open up my little calculator app to get a decimal equivalent. Be it for a patch 3/8 (.375) of the day, or a decal 7/16" (.4375") away from the edge. Or even a tolerance on a poster trap at 3/32 (.09375") where the colors overlap.

When did you realize you wanted to be a designer?

When you ask how I fit it all in, I suspect you ask how I fit design into my life? But I have to say, I kind of flip it around the other way. How do I fit life into my designing? I work way more than I should, I’m betting.

What does your typical work day look like?

Glad to meet awesome person like you Aaron. I’m so pissed at myself that I missed your speech at Y conference. Is there any way that a guy 1000 miles away from Mancato could watch your 14 rules and 4 hour logo talk? If there is, a link would be appreciated. I had a great time at your keynote for the Savannah Geekend tonight. Probably the best presentation I’ve seen at any of these conferences in a long time.

Polly Leonard on dominating the textiles industry through championing raw design talent

Anyway, a national campaign that could mobilize 100,000 “time gifters” each donating 100 hrs a year would yield 10 million donated hours. I saw your speech at the AIGA Conference last weekend and it was very inspiring. I saw him at AIGA and he seemed well. You should take comfort in knowing that he got to see you give such a wonderful, inspiring, presentation that showed how much you loved him and your Mom. I shared your work with my business partner/designer and there are a ton of similarities in your designs…Keep up the good work.. One thing that hit me hard was the importance of friends and the ability to do good work for them.

On the most important lesson he’s learned from his life as a designer

I’ve always designed logos just because I loved it. I did it for my dad’s projects growing up and I’m not professionally trained. I can’t stand such pretentious design houses - probably simply because I feel intimidated. But your video really encouraged me to just do it cos I love it.

What three pieces of advice would you share with aspiring designers looking to follow in your footsteps?

They come back toyou for helping with a menu for their restaurant, or whatever it’s going to be. At the time, I was working at asnowboarding magazine, I met a lot of people there, and I tried to be a goodlittle worker. If they needed help, if they needed a little extra favour done,I would do these things, and I started to get calls to say, “Hey, youhelped us at the magazine really well.

Catching up with founder of Draplin Design Co: Aaron James Draplin

Then, building the pieces into a presentation for the client. After you get feedback, you do it again. And you go back and forth a handful of times until something awesome pops out. It takes work, diligence, and good communication. And that’s how I’ve done it all these years. Funny enough, it’s always the underdogs.

So I just saw you at the AIGA gathering..I came here to check you out, your state posters are amazing….only one thing, where is Indiana? Maybe you could come here and we can show you how amaze we are! I share you love and appreciation of the great design from back in the day.

I didn’t really even know what a graphic designer was, but I knew I wanted to be into art. It goes all the way back to skateboarding. We were making our own grip tape graphics, our own stickers and our own little goodies. We didn’t really know any better.

But those are the big ones. I remember all the tiny ones too. One time in Des Moines, with 25 people there. Just want to thank you for the selfie and the exciting talk you gave at UNI last night. It was the best laugh and refreshing talk I have attended in a long time.

Insulated Concrete Forms ICFs Building America Solution Center

insulated concrete form house

Are you thinking about using insulated concrete forms (ICF) to build your new home? We’ll cover what ICF is, how it works, and the pros and cons of ICF construction. Here’s what you need to know about this energy-efficient building material.

Pros and Cons of Building ICF Homes in California

Other homes in the neighborhood were completely consumed by flames, but this one, built with ICF, survived. This home built with Insulated Concrete Forms narrowly escaped destruction in 2018’s California’s wildfires, which burned 18,804 structures and took 85 lives.

Plan: #132-1307

The screen-grid ICF wall system is similar to a waffle-grid ICF wall system without concrete webs in between the vertical and horizontal members. The post and beam ICF wall system has vertical and/or horizontal concrete members spaced farther than 12 inches on center. Dave Phelps of ICF Homes of Virginia has witnessed similar results in building ICF homes. ICF construction has two advantages in terms of the energy performance of the building. First, it seals very well, preventing air leakage through the walls.

Reduce Building Steps with an ICF Wall System

Steel rebar is added to the cavities for additional strength (Figure 2). Some ICFs come with plastic nailing strips embedded in their exterior surfaces. Some ICF products use extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam, which is stronger but more costly. Some ICF walls consist of two layers of concrete sandwiching a central layer of foam. Concrete block and ICF (insulated concrete form) house plans offer a number of advantages – like improved energy efficiency – for the eco-conscious homeowner.

Building an ICF Home in California

The foam forms stay in place, providing permanent insulating foam layers on the interior and exterior of the wall. Foam blocks are typically comprised of two 2-inch-thick, 16 by 48-inch rectangles of foam that are connected by plastic, metal, or foam ties. The ties hold the foam panels 6 or 8 inches apart during the pour and remain in place afterward. The blocks are stacked like bricks to create the wall forms for the concrete.

Homes That Last For Generations","slug":"et_pb_text"" data-et-multi-view-load-phone-hidden="true">

That’s because ICF saves steps in both the exterior and interior construction. Also, one of the most time-consuming and yet important aspects of wood framing are all the many steps required to protect a wood frame from moisture. So there are dual-layer and even triple-layer protection systems involved in protecting a wood frame from moisture. Plus, the ICF system is designed to allow moisture to exit the frame inherently.

Our Experience Living in an ICF Home

ICF homes offer a level of safety no other building system can match. They are more than 10 times stronger than framed structures, and several times stronger than CMU  “cinder block” construction as well. It’s a natural result of having exterior walls with a core of solid, steel-reinforced concrete. Architects can design an ICF home to look just like a wood-frame house and still take advantage of all the added benefits of building with concrete. The floor plan can match virtually any style, and ICFs are compatible with all popular interior and exterior finishes.

Any scraps with at least one web can be integrated into the wall without sacrificing strength. The 1″ repeating pattern lets you cut off as little as 1″ and still be able to fully interlock the block in a wall. BuildBlock manufactures a complete ICF solution for projects of any size or complexity. Form sizes from 4″-12″+, floor and roof decking, bucking, and more.

insulated concrete form house

If you have a home with an extremely tight building envelope, you will likely experience more considerable savings. While you will probably pay 5% - 10% more upfront for an ICF home, your energy bills will be lower each month than if you were to build a wood-frame home built to typical standards. I would not recommend do it yourself ICF construction for the average handy person. It can be done, but you need special equipment and you don't want to screw up.

Our expert team will work with you, give you the knowledge and support that you need, and empower you to build your new home perfect down to the last detail. Plates that connect roof framing to ICF walls must be secured with 1/2-inch anchor bolts embedded a minimum of 7 in. Because of how durable ICF homes are, it does make remodeling difficult. If you foresee wanting to remodel your home in the future entirely, you might want to consider a more flexible building material. You can add more insulation to the outside, especially for a foundation, as Phil Dennis did in his Gaspereau Passive House with four extra insulation inches. Don’t count on natural convection (normal heat/cold airflow) to move air around the house.

Insulated concrete formwork, commonly known as ICF, is a construction method used in home building that utilizes styrofoam foundation forms to create a strong and well-insulated structure. This 4-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom ICF home plan features a spacious and practical layout. The open floor plan connects the kitchen, dining room, and great room, making entertaining family and friends a breeze. The master suite includes a large bedroom, walk-in closet, and private bath. 3 additional bedrooms provide ample space for family or guests, whereas the laundry room and three-car garage complete this functional home design. Apart from the master bath, the floor plan also includes 2 full baths.

The concrete provides exceptional strength and thermal mass; the foam provides a continuous layer of high performance insulation, and doubles as an ideal substrate for many finishes. Industry estimates suggest ICF homes may cost 0% to 10% more to build, depending on the manufacturer and other factors impacting local building costs. Importantly, the increased construction costs may be offset by lower utility bills.

Insulating concrete forms (ICFs) are panels or hollow blocks that are stacked, braced, and then filled with concrete. They are most commonly solid pieces of rigid foam, but some are composites of cement and other insulating materials. This floor plan features 2 bedrooms, 3 baths, 2 walk-in closets, a living room, a dining room, a utility room, a living room, a dining room, a covered porch, and a kitchen. The covered porch provides ample space for relaxing and dining, while the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, with plenty of storage space. Unlike traditional wood-frame builds that use foam or fiberglass insulation, ICF construction utilizes interlocking forms with a lightweight foam exterior. These forms are available in many sizes and styles, enabling their use in every aspect of a home seamlessly and efficiently.

Dissatisfied with the ICF R-value of 25, she specified the installation of an additional 4 inches of extruded polystyrene on the exterior of the ICF walls to raise their R-value to 45. Another study compared an ICF building to traditional wood-frame construction and a wood-frame building built to higher than average standards. They also found that the operational energy use was responsible for 95% to 97% of the entire environmental impact for all three buildings. The researchers examined two hypothetical homes to address climate differences that can significantly change a building's energy performance. These homes would be built in five geographical locations in the United States and three locations in Canada.

Keeping the walls cooler when the outdoor temperature is hot keeps you and your family comfortable. Due to thermal mass, estimating the size of HVAC equipment for ICF homes is complicated. Simulated prior to construction, HVAC sizing is carefully calculated to produce the most cost and energy-savings.

On the first floor, you’ll find a spacious bedroom, a full kitchen, and a cozy living room. Upstairs, there are two more bedrooms and three bathrooms, giving you plenty of room to spread out. Plus, the family room on the second floor is the perfect place to relax or entertain guests. With its modern design and convenient layout, this house plan is sure to please everyone in the family. Concrete block houses have a number of benefits that make them an attractive option for many homeowners.

Custom Sofas & Furniture

couch design

All of these testing steps are then considered together to give each couch a value rating. To bring you this list, we analyze all of the couch scores and insights, conduct supplemental research, and speak to design experts before making our final selections. If you love the convenience and casual look of slip-covered couches, the Pottery Barn Cameron Roll Arm Slipcovered Sleeper Sofa is both stylish and comfortable.

Creative Couches & Sofas Ideas

In fact, these couch styles have been around for hundreds of years for a reason – they are timeless. Because of their collectability and designer kudos, Knole sofas tend to be used as statement pieces in their truest form and are rarely modernised, however, updated versions do exist with modern materials and accents. The design is one of the most popular sofa styles, lending itself to traditional and contemporary decor schemes, town and country homes alike.

Sectional

The Modern Arm Sofa’s minimal, streamlined shape fits in anywhere—it pairs well with mid-century woods, bright pops of color, or soothing neutrals. This regal-looking sofa is features an elaborately carved, Cabriole-style frame with an antique champagne finish. And often, once you have the base sections of your sofa, you can add to it as and when you need to by purchasing new sections/modules.

DIY Two-Piece Upholstered Sectional Couch

Despite its relatively compact size, it easily converts to a queen-sized bed whenever you need it. Additionally, we found the sofa held up exceptionally well over time, as it proved to be highly durable even in a household with pets. Any stains came out very easily and overall, the couch looks as good as new. Its functionality and convenience make it super practical for those who love to host—especially for anyone living in an apartment lacking a separate guest bedroom. Overall, we love that this couch offers a high-end look and feel at a reasonable price point. The only con that we could come up with was that this couch doesn’t have any included storage or a pullout mattress, but it’s a great option for anyone on the hunt for a dependable, value-packed couch.

Popular jobs

We have to be as practical and logical as possible to squeeze bigger furniture like sofas into our small living rooms. That said, we put a lot of research—hours' worth—into choosing and vouching for the pieces on our list. First and foremost, we chose only the best-looking curved couches on the market. Next, we consulted reviews, plucking out the sofas with the most five-star ratings and positive feedback from verified reviews. Lastly, we wanted to make sure that there was a sizable price range so that everyone, no matter their budget, can find a piece they like for their space without feeling constricted or restrained by the expense. As far as designer furniture goes, you can't go wrong by filling your space with Jonathan Adler's pieces.

For one, it’s incredibly spacious, with deep seating and pliable yet bouncy cushions that provide comfort and support. It has held up well in time, with only slight flattening in the bottom cushions despite everyday use. In terms of comfort, The Varick is on the firmer side—it’s not quite as soft or supportive as some of the other options on this list, making it better suited for sitting than napping or lounging. That being said, we’ve only been testing this couch for a month, so we expect it to break in a bit more with time. Overall, we think that its price tag (ranging from $1,599 for a loveseat to $4,000 for larger sizes) is reflective of its high-quality hardwood frame construction and competitive for its highly customizable design.

The overall construction of the sofa is sound, but we wish there were more padding in the rolled arms. The couch cushions provide a great balance between comfort and support, making it suitable for everyday use. This firm sofa doesn’t necessarily provide plush, sink-in comfort that you might find in other options, like the Albany Park Kova Pit (our best modular couch). That being said, the Turner Sofa never felt uncomfortable and is a great pick for those who prefer more firm sofas that break in over time.

You can shop for kid- and pet-friendly, indoor/outdoor, durable, and stain-resistant upholstery. These modular couches are made up of more than one piece, and they’re commonly L- or U-shaped. Sectionals like the West Elm Harmony Modular Sectional (best sectional couch) provide more seating, making them a good solution for large families or big rooms. Making great furniture starts with great furniture design software that enables you to move from idea to shop quickly and efficiently.

Fast-track the learning curve by joining our weekly workshops, where we explain in detail how the tools work and answer any questions about our furniture design program. SketchList 3D makes furniture design faster than a speeding bullet thanks to our versatile library of 3D models and templates that can be tweaked according to your needs or style preferences. No more wasting precious hours trying to figure out how your design tool works when using an intuitive woodworking interface that thinks as you do. If you enjoy woodworking in your free time, the most basic package, SketchList 3D Hobby, will likely provide you with everything you need to fast-track the planning stage. There are multiple payment options, including monthly and yearly subscriptions—though we recommend buying the software outright for $250 if you plan to use it consistently.

After six months of regular use from humans and pets alike, we found that the back cushions deflated a bit over time and now require more regular fluffing. However, this affected the appearance of the couch more than the comfort level, as the cushions still feel fluffy and haven’t started to lump. SketchList 3D is the most effective, almost unique software for rapid furniture planning with exceptional features. Users with Windows will need to pay a one-time fee of $99.99 to download the software. The company behind Virtual Architect, Nova Development, does sell home design software for Macs, but some of the features will be different. Amateur designers can do quite a bit with SketchUp Free, which, as its name suggests, is free to use on Mac and Windows.

A universal library classic, chesterfield sofas combine the elegance of tuxedo sofas with the comfort of English roll arm ones. Like the tuxedo sofa, chesterfields comprise of high arms level with the sofa back, but rather than being angular and rigid, chesterfield arms are curved and softer. Chesterfield sofas are often upholstered in leather and also feature tufted buttons.

This Orren Ellis curved sofa may look a bit similar to the previous one, but this one is smaller by more than 30 inches, available in more colors, and a bit cheaper. With a weight capacity and space for two people, this is a cozy find for any small living room. But it’s important to point out that it is not a couch style, and more of an additional function or feature you can add to many couch styles.

When it comes to length/width, most standard three-seater sofas will vary from around 72 inches to 96 inches, with loveseats (two-seaters) often measuring between 50 and 72 inches. Its solid hardwood frame sits on straight legs with a classic walnut finish. Like divans, daybeds are mattresses that are used to create a seating space — they’re a cross between a chaise lounge, a couch, and a bed.

While this style can be seen in both traditional and modern styles, the Cabriole is a classic couch that has been around for centuries. The Cabriole features a back and arms that are equal in height, and distinct legs in the cabriole-style. In fact, the long line along the back is continuous and curves gently as it reaches the arms.

The Herman Miller Eames Sofa is a gorgeous leather sofa that gives off a 90’s vibe. The Krupp Sofa has a futuristic design that is very pleasing to the eye. You can choose from two different color combinations to better fit your space.

Pottery Barn also gives you the customization choice between two- and three-seat cushions and the addition of nailhead trim. SketchUp has proven to be a valuable tool for a wide array of projects, which is why we named it the best overall furniture design software. The program allows users of all skill levels to efficiently create small- and large-scale 3D models, including furniture pieces. As most of the House Beautiful team lives in New York, where space is limited, we couldn't test the sofas on our list.

Palmer Sofa

This is another furniture design software used by professionals and businesses across the world, including Philip Morison, The Cabinet Shop, and Edward Wynn-Jones. However, bear in mind it’s designed specifically for cabinet making and so isn’t ideal for designing other furniture like chairs and tables. As is often the case with specialized design programs, there is less furniture design software available on Mac than there is on Windows. While SketchUp is, SketchList 3D is a more specialized, furniture-focused program that’s our pick for the best furniture design software for Mac. Solidworks is one of the most popular furniture design software among professionals, with some people even claiming it’s used in Ikea.

It can be arranged in a number of ways, with options to add a chaise and sleep kit (to allow the Nomad to convert into a sofa bed. It also includes a built-in USB charger & 72” power cord. Couch Sleeper is a unique combination of daybed and sleeping bag designed by German designer Anne Lorenz. In the designer’s words, “The design is based on the notice that people always use a blanket while lying on the couch. When it is closed, it can be used like a traditional daybed on which one can lie or sit on. In this situation, only the oversized zip locker suggests this special function.

We’ve tested this couch in our homes for six months, and upon arrival, we were impressed with just how comfortable the sofa was. It boasts oversized cushions and big pillows which are exceptionally plush and provide that “sink-in” feeling that we love. When it first arrived, the cushions looked almost overstuffed and bubbly. But with time, the cushions wore perfectly, which gave the couch an effortlessly chic, lived-in look. However, we did notice a few feathers start to poke out of the cushions in time. It comes in five different stain-resistant upholstery colors, and you can personalize a variety of other features, including the leg finish, arm shape, and cushion style.

The track arm sofa is a subtly modern pick that walks the line between casual and formal. Track arm sofas also share many similarities with mid-century contemporary sofas, like their long-and-low profile and angled look. After peaking in popularity in the mid-century, mid-mod sofas are back and they are quickly becoming a new living room favorite. This pared-down seating offers a low profile, strong lines and lots of angles. Mid-century modern sofas are often low to the ground too, and typically come in leather or more neutral colors . Outdoor sofas often come in more contemporary styles, like track arm or deep-seated sofas.

Imagine a World Where You Could Design Professional Pieces with Half the Time and Effort

The cushions are tied together and fixed with tailor quality button molded of fiber concrete. Young German designer Stephan Schulz has created the Recycling Chair-Sofa system. The chair-sofa system consists of two basic elements/panels fixed together by a simple framework. The size and shape of the furniture can be changed by adding or removing the panels, giving the furniture a variety of functionalities like couch, or sofa. The original color and finishing of the foam are retained to give the furniture a natural look.

With less time spent on each piece, you could experiment more and learn new techniques quickly. You could also free up your time to take on higher-end projects or put designs together for your furniture. Over the last 50 years, Roche Bobois has perfected their iconic Mah Jong sofas.

Since I am not a professional cabinet maker, I tried the Hobby demo first. While I like the Hobby version (and the price), I really like the material layout and purchase list features available in the Pro version. Professional furniture designers, interior designers, and hobbyists know the design process takes time and patience. Not to mention the sheets and sheets of paper wasted and pencils worn down to the nib from drawing, re-drawing, and correcting mistakes. For the purposes of this style guide, we’ve gathered all couch styles originating before the 19th century in the traditional section. Note that any of these more classic styles can be made in a modern way and are by no means outdated or unfashionable.

The “Curve Frame sofa” consists of one lounge sofa, side table, and stool. A sofa and stool have three cushions and the frames have smooth curves and hold each cushion. With remote working still the norm for many, Norwegian designer Daniel Rybakken has devised a dining table that can be easily adjusted to instead function as a seated or standing desk. Alternatively, you can always opt for software with free versions, like SketchUp, or completely free and open source CAD programs such as FreeCAD. Solidworks is a more powerful 3D modeling software for Windows that would suit professionals who require advanced features. Sketchup is totally free online software, with a simple and intuitive layout that’s easy to learn.

After six months of using this couch in our homes, we found it improved with time. While the couch cushions are quite firm initially, they became softer as we broke them in a bit more. The couch has gotten better and better with each day, but it’s important to note that it may not be the comfiest upon arrival. Because the Kova Pit is modular, we love how versatile it is for any space.

This tufted couch adds timeliness to any room, while the fringe brings a bit of frivolity. It's customizable with nearly 70 fabrics and finishes, so you can match it to your environment flawlessly. Choosing the right materials can also help you add to the overall design of the room your couch will be in. Consider if you want natural fibers or synthetic fabrics for the upholstery. Decorative accents on the arms or a smooth, simple slipcover for the whole piece?

Despite being sturdy and relatively plush, we don’t love that you can still feel the fold-out frame underneath. However, we were pleased to find that the pull-out mechanism actually became smoother and easier to use in time. During our tests, we were blown away by just how comfortable the couch felt, as the deep seats allowed for multiple people to sit back and stretch their legs. It felt like a separate bed for your living room and was exceptionally cozy to lay down on.

The padding completely incorporates the supporting structure, which is made of an electro-welded steel plate; the suspension in the seating consists of elastic straps fixed to the basic structure. A unique feature is the built-in CAD technology that does not limit your designs. You can create not only a model of furniture but also design a kitchen, a bedroom or a living room as a whole to test the color and size combinations of your rooms. Virtually all furniture design software offers a free trial (usually at least two weeks), and you should definitely make the most of this, as subsequent subscriptions can be pricey for quality software. Another free trial program worth considering if you’re looking for the best furniture design software for CNC is Woodwork for Inventor, an impressive program that’s fully integrated with Autodesk Inventor. Viecelli Moveis, Brazil’s leading custom furniture manufacturer, also uses Solidworks.

10 Best Cruise Lines for Weddings

If your ceremony will take place during the cruise, either a local notary public (for ports in the U.S.) or a nondenominational officiant (international ports) will preside over the ceremony, making the wedding legal. "We find most weddings are celebrated on board during embarkation day. This allows attendees who aren't sailing with the couple to visit the ship for the ceremony," says Matt Lupoli, of Carnival Cruise Line media relations. This option allows you to not only invite friends and family to your wedding but also enjoy a private honeymoon — without your mother-in-law or best man tagging along. MSC weddings allow couples sailing in the Caribbean to legally tie the knot onboard or ashore with its wedding packages.

Can you get married at sea by a ship’s captain?

At-sea nuptials have many selling points — including a wedding planner and a built-in honeymoon — especially for couples looking for smaller, more intimate weddings (up to 125 guests). Yet before you decide to get married on a cruise ship, you'll want to understand all the pros and cons. Weddings in port are available on Carnival cruise ships only in select ports (including embarkation ports), and there's a limit to how many weddings can take place on the same day. Surcharges (ranging from $100 to $200) may apply for ceremonies during popular seasons, including Thanksgiving, winter holidays, Valentine's week and all of May and June. Reception-wise, couples can choose from a variety of hot and cold appetizers… and even have a specialty cocktail named in their honor!

Each country has its own requirements for in-port and at-sea weddings, and the cruise line's weddings department will assist in obtaining the information and, ultimately, the license. For example, if you want to get married while the ship is in the Bahamas, you need to first obtain a marriage license from that country, a process that can take up to 90 days. To get married in a U.S. port, you only need a marriage license from that state.

Carnival Cruise Wedding

From custom bouquets to accents and arrangements, Royal Weddings offers an array of floral options to make your celebration more colorful. Ultimately, if you're a person who wants a hassle-free wedding, with a one-stop shop for planning and a built-in honeymoon, then swapping vows ashore, in port or at sea might just be your dream affair. On the other hand, if you want to plan a simple, stress-free wedding, it doesn't get much easier than this.

Cruise Ship/Yacht Wedding Venues

Not only can your ceremony be conducted at sea by your Princess ship's captain, but the line also features state-of-the-art technology that allows you to broadcast the ceremony live, via webcam, to friends and family on land. On one particular cruise over Valentine's Day, the captain casually announced he'd conduct vow renewals for anyone who wanted them, and about a half-dozen couples showed up. Princess Perfect Weddings offers couples a range of options within a variety of wedding, renewal of vows and proposal packages, each ensuring that the couple's dream vision can be realized, from intimate gatherings to grand celebrations. Some couples who opt for a memorable wedding at sea are frequent cruisers who use the moment to celebrate their favorite way of traveling as well as their shared love for one another. Ilene and Carl had each been on dozens of cruises when they met on a cruise.

Cunard Cruise Wedding Caveat:

Add-ons cover additional decorations, a mimosa breakfast, silk flowers for the couple, massages, sparkling wine upgrades, larger cakes, and cake toppers. All Carnival wedding packages can be arranged to take place on embarkation day, onboard the ship in a port of call, off the ship in a port of call and onboard while at sea (symbolic only). You’ll have to take note of legal requirements when it comes to getting married on a cruise ship or on land. Some countries have residency requirements, meaning you have to reside on the island for a certain period of time in order to legally marry there—not possible if you’re just making a cruise stop. Of course, you could legally marry in your home country before your cruise and have a symbolic wedding at the port. When it comes to getting married on a cruise ship, you’ll need to follow the laws of the country where the ship is registered.

On the luxe end, Cunard's Royal Ceremony at Sea package starts at $3,300. Of course, you will still need to pay for your own cruise fare, on top of the wedding package rates, as do your guests. Bernal says one couple arranged a fireworks show off the coast of Puerto Rico and worked with Celebrity Cruises to stop the ship in the middle of the ocean for the best view. It's becoming more popular for couples to host a series of events on board the ship during the wedding week, says Bernal. Previously, couples have organized a whiskey tasting for the guys; afternoon tea for the girls; bachelorette parties at a ship's bar, club or lounge; or a private dinner in an onboard restaurant for guests the day after the wedding. One drawback of an at-sea wedding is that you may be forced to host events indoors because of high winds, rain or limited deck space, and the hours to rent a specific venue have to mesh with the ship's other programming needs -- including other weddings.

Weddings on Celebrity cruises include the option to have the captain perform either a legal or symbolic ceremony at sea -- including legal same-sex weddings -- under the line’s Malta registration. The line's fleet of ships offers a pleasant mix of fun and luxury, leaving the happy couple and their guests with plenty to do before and after the big day.
